Any word?

For those of you who do not know what I'm talking about: http://www.societygame.com/ (and shame on you!)

My question is very simple? Any news? The last update was over 8 months ago, I'm looking forward to this and would like just a little more news.

As I understand it, it won't be the next Stardock title, maybe the one after that?

Kind regards,

G-Force

Society is on the backburner while we build the development tools and whatnot we'll need for the game via other titles. Right now Society is a few years in the distance.

In other words, it's being anti-Social

Looks like a cool game/idea. I believe some of Stardock's lower priced games include aspects they'd like to see in Society, but that's a huge undertaking and they're doing it the smart way- divide and conquer.

I also believe the next version of Political Machine will be out this next year, just in time for the next presidential race. I'm sure that will be much more enjoyable than the actual race itself.

I was so hyped for this game back in late 2005/early 2006 and it just seems like the more time that passes, the longer the game is from release

At this rate, I'll probably have lost complete interest from the lack of updates and time passing.

While I'd love to see this come out, Stardock is a small company. They've got a good series going with GalCiv2 and potentially Sins of a Solar Empire. Going into a new field is difficult for a company the size of Stardock, who are pretty diversified as it is for their size.

That said - I'd love to see more emphasis put on Society than has been...However I have preordered Sins of a Solar Empire and would like to see it come out on time also ... they can only do so much.

It's always sad when an anticipated title doesn't come out, or doesn't come out as soon as I had hoped.

Frankly, the StarDock guys and gals have done a good enough job with the stuff I've seen them release that I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, in terms of their prioritization decisions and such.

Stardock is privately owned, so they don't release annual reports or such, but I'm pretty sure that, even with the commercial success of GalCiv2 and now Dark Avatar, they're primarily focused on their desktop-enhancement stuff (Windows Blinds, etc.). The company description says as much:

While the games stuff is a definite income stream for the firm, I think it's as much a labor of love as it is a day job for those folks.

Oh it's still being worked on in a way. The tools we'll need to make Society are being developed and used to make our other upcoming titles. It's kind of a chicken and the egg thing.

It is good to hear that it is being developed in this way since it is obvious that the final product will have a very ambitious game design, whose parts will have already been tested in various smaller programs. From a fisical standpoint it also makes good sense, since you will be able to receive small pay-offs from each part of the game engine prior to the production of the game itself.

I've only just posted on the society forums about more info. I wish stardock would check that forum more often.

You're still my favorite developers though *hug*

Honestly, from a personal perspective, I kind of wish the thing would just fall into obscurity and disappear. I can think of no worse use of any great game developer's time than an MMOG, and no worse use of great talent for strategy game design than an RTS. This has all the disadvantages of both. But that's just my own game preferences, of course. MMO games are a plague on the industry IMO.
